A Brief Guide to Top Physical Therapy Programs
If you want to work in the professional physical therapy field, you will first need to obtain your education. Physical therapists and even their assistants must complete schooling, training and a state exam before they can be licensed. The top physical therapy programs in the U.S. are highly competitive and therefore students who want to get in must prepare early and maintain a high GPA. There are prerequisite classes required in order to gain entrance to these programs so speak to a school counselor to make sure you are signed up for them.
There are many great colleges and universities offering physical therapy programs. The University of Southern California, Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Pittsburgh are three top schools to consider. Also take a look at the University of Delaware. In both Pennsylvania and Delaware there are Dynamic Physical Therapy Centers which are great places for licensed therapists and their assistants to work. With locations all over both states you will likely find one near you if this is where you live.
Not to say you have to live in Pennsylvania or Delaware to become a physical therapist -- far from it. Every state has something to offer students who want to work in this field. Not only can you get your education and license, there are all kinds of job opportunities. PTs and PTAs work at hospitals, private practices, clinics, schools, workplaces, fitness centers and some even travel from place to place. There will always be a need for qualified physical therapy professionals wherever you happen to be.
Even if you're unable to get into one of the top physical therapy programs in the country you can still become a physical therapist and enjoy a rewarding and lucrative career. The first thing you may want to do is learn more about what these therapists do on a daily basis. Therapy may involve exercise, massage, hydrotherapy and ultrasound therapy among other strategies. The Internet is a great source of information for prospective students, and even for patients who may need physical therapy. You can also learn a great deal about universities who offer PT programs and their admittance requirements.
